tomboy are a multinational directing duo based between New York City and London. During formative years, Jesse carved out his career painting graffiti and working as a printmaker, whilst Nikki earned a masters in Creative Writing and Literature before working as a wardrobe stylist.
Inspired by the innate power and possibilities of storytelling within film and photography, the pair first began working together on smaller personal projects, including music videos to hone their collective identity. Their work often blurs the line between narrative and documentary filmmaking, sensitivity combining emotional storytelling with poetic cinematography using rich colour palettes to accentuate the human experience.
Since forming tomboy, the pair have grown from strength to strength, forging a distinct tone of voice while expanding their offering to brand partners. They are passionate about tapping into subcultures throughout their storytelling, as a way of selling a lifestyle, rather than an individual product. In recent years they have collaborated on commercial campaigns with Reebok, Estrella Jalisco, VRBO, ESPN to name but a few. Music forms the backbone to their work, and luckily, their collaborators place trust in the duo’s creative choices which undoubtedly elevates the power of their filmmaking.
