About Us

Merman is a globally-renowned production and entertainment company working across the UK and US, with a reputation for scripting and producing award winning TV and film. Founded in 2014 by award-winning duo Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford, Merman Television has won multiple accolades under their leadership, including six BAFTAs and multiple Emmy and RTS nominations, alongside Production Company of The Year at the Edinburgh TV Awards 2022.

Merman’s recent TV projects include the critically acclaimed Bad Sisters (Apple TV+), which was created by and starred Sharon Horgan, and has so far been nominated for five BAFTA Television and Television Craft Awards, the Peabody Award for Entertainment, twelve IFTA Awards, the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, C21’s International Drama Awards, Writers Guild of America, Broadcast Awards, Channel 4’s National Comedy Awards and RTS Craft & Design Awards. The hotly anticipated second series is currently in the early stages of production.

Also airing is comedy-drama Dreamland for Sky, starring Lily Allen and Freema Agyeman. Currently in production is a special episode of There She Goes for BBC Two, starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes.

Also recently announced was ten-part BBC Sounds audio drama People Who Knew Me, starring Rosamund Pike and Hugh Laurie, as well as ABC comedy pilot Drop-Off based on critically-acclaimed Motherland starring Ellie Kemper.

Other TV projects include: Frayed for Sky/ABC, This Way Up for Hulu/Channel 4, Housebroken for Fox, Shining Vale for Starz. Frank of Ireland for Channel 4/Amazon, Motherland for BBC Two, There She Goes for BBC Four, Catastrophe for Channel 4/Amazon, Divorce for HBO, Women on the Verge for UKTV, plus The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret for Channel 4.

Merman’s first feature film Herself, a co-production with Element Pictures, written by Claire Dunne and Malcolm Campbell and starring Dunne, premiered at 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

Working alongside Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford in the London office are Merman’s Managing Director, Rebecca Parkinson; Finance Director Jackie Sidey; Head of Drama, Faye Dorn; and Head of Production, Rebecca Kerley.

Also based in London, Merman’s advertising and branded division is under the leadership of joint Managing Directors Siobhan Murphy and Spencer Todd.

In the US, Merman’s offices cover Television and Film as well as advertising and branded content. Kira Carstenson is Managing Partner of Merman Los Angeles and Ellen Jacobson-Clarke is Managing Partner of Merman New York.

In 2018, Merman launched Mermade, its digitally focussed sister company, specialising in the creation of content of all shapes and sizes, funded by and for social and streaming platforms, brands and publishers, with a particular focus on short form episodic.
