Hailing from Manchester, KC Locke has cemented himself as one of the most prolific, most culturally influential directors on the UK music video scene. His ability to push the creative possibilities of VFX, paired with an unrivaled talent for authentically capturing youth and street culture, has led him to create promos for some of the most notable artists in Rap, Hip Hop and Pop, including the likes of Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Aitch, AJ Tracey, David Guetta, Jonas Blue, Little Mix, and Mahalia. One of his most recent music videos, for UK rapper Meekz’ new single “Mini Me’s,” generated buzz for its singular, gonzo-style treatment of the rising star’s alter-egos and was recognized as the best music video at the LA Film Awards.
Originally from Urmston in Greater Manchester, KC’s primitive years of filmmaking were somewhat shaped by his proud heritage. While working at a creative agency in Manchester, KC began honing his distinctive visual style by directing promos for emerging artists and friends on Manchester’s music scene. This included directing a series of videos for local rapper IAMDDB, whose promo for ‘Shade’ soon went viral, amassing millions of hits online while subsequently hurtling KC onto the music industry’s roadmap as a notable new filmmaker.
His style is epic in both scale and confidence, contrasting grit with color to craft bespoke worlds for his artists that create intrigue and drive rewatchability. Moving forward, KC is keen to continue honing his craft through promos while simultaneously developing his commercial offering, having already directed campaigns for brands including ITV x Samsung, McDonald’s, boohooMAN, and Ruroc. So, if you’re looking for a highly experimental filmmaker who will push the boundaries of a creative vision while tapping into the cultural zeitgeist, then look no further.
