Anton Corbijn is an acclaimed Dutch photographer, music video director, and film director.
He is the creative director behind the visual output of Depeche Mode and U2, having handled the principal promotion and sleeve photography for both bands for over three decades. Some of his works include music videos for Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence (1990), U2’s One (version 1) (1991), Bryan Adams’ Do I Have to Say the Words?, Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box (1993) and Coldplay’s Talk (2005) and Viva la Vida (2008), as well as the Ian Curtis biographical film Control (2007), The American (2010), and A Most Wanted Man (2014), based on John le Carré’s 2008 novel of the same name. Most recently, he has released his much anticipated documentary feature Squaring The Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis), that tells the chaotic and tragic story of the creative duo behind some of the most recognisable album artworks of all time.
His attention to detail is second to none and his work is largely shaped by strong performance and gorgeous visuals that really elevate their tone and energy. He has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and has transitioned his music video skill sets and talent for photography into both commercial and feature film directing.
Having spent his life in and around the world of music alongside some of the biggest bands and public figures there’s not much that he hasn’t seen. His calm manner and dry sense of humour has made him a trusted confidante and creative ally to many.
