MJ Delaney is a prolific British director spanning advertising and narrative storytelling.
She first made her mark in commercials, collaborating with globally recognised brands such as Nandos, KFC, Walkers, Weetabix and most recently, M&S Food Christmas starring Dawn French. Her momentum in the advertising world continues with a major milestone – her debut spot for the Super Bowl airing on February 9th. This achievement cements her as one of the first female directors to helm both a Christmas campaign and a Super Bowl commercial in the same year.
Beyond advertising, MJ has directed an array of much-loved television. Her work includes the BAFTA-winning short Summer (written by Sharon Horgan and starring Sheridan Smith), Disney+’s Renegade Nell (written by Sally Wainwright), Frank of Ireland (starring Domhnall and Brian Gleeson), and the final episodes of Ten Percent (the British adaptation of Call My Agent). Most notably, she played a key role in the success of Ted Lasso, directing across all three seasons and earning an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. And if that isn’t enough, additional talent direction also includes Amy Schumer and Gloria Steinem for AppleTV’s documentary Gutsy, executive produced by Hilary Clinton.
In 2016, she teamed up with Richard Curtis’ charity Global Goals to release What I Really Really Want, a reimagining of the iconic Spice Girls promo featuring women and girls from across the globe. A year later she directed the powerful Freedom (featuring the standout track from Beyonce’s Lemonade album) which between the two campaigns, amassed millions of views worldwide.
With a career defined by groundbreaking work across multiple mediums, MJ Delaney continues to push creative boundaries – fearless, dynamic and always at home among the biggest names in the industry.
