About Us

Sharon Horgan’s Merman is a globally-renowned production and entertainment company working across the UK and US. Founded in 2014 by award-winning duo Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford, it has a reputation for scripting and producing award winning TV and film. Merman Television has won a multitude of accolades, including numerous BAFTAs and multiple Emmy and RTS nominations, alongside Production Company of The Year at the Edinburgh TV Awards 2022.

Merman’s recent TV projects include season two of the critically acclaimed Bad Sisters (Apple TV+), which was created by and starred Sharon Horgan, which took home titles like Best Drama, Director (Dearbhla Walsh), and Script (Sharon Horgan) at the 2025 IFTA Awards. In 2023, Bad Sisters won the BAFTA Award for Drama Series, Best Supporting Actress and Best Titles & Graphic Identity, alongside a further two nominations. It received four IFTA Awards and the Peabody Award for Entertainment, and was nominated at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, C21’s International Drama Awards, Writers Guild of America, Broadcast Awards, Channel 4’s National Comedy Awards, RTS Craft & Design Awards and at the Edinburgh TV Awards for Best Drama. Since launching last Autumn, the second series has amassed awards nominations so far from Critics Choice, and Producers Guild Awards.

Amandaland, the eagerly anticipated Motherland spin-off, aired on BBC One and iPlayer in February of 2025. Following immediate critical acclaim and averaging over 6.4 million viewers to date, it was soon recommissioned for a second series which is currently in pre production. Recently Merman has produced There She Goes for BBC Two, starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes, comedy-drama Dreamland for Sky, starring Lily Allen and Freema Agyeman, and BBC Sounds audio drama People Who Knew Me, starring Rosamund Pike and Hugh Laurie.

Upcoming projects include Disability Benefits, a co-production with 2LE Media, written by Rosie Jones and Peter Fellows. Disability Benefits first came to life as the award-winning Channel 4 Comedy Blap of the same name.

Other TV projects include: Frayed for Sky/ABC, This Way Up for Hulu/Channel 4, Housebroken for Fox, Shining Vale for Starz. Frank of Ireland for Channel 4/Amazon, Motherland for BBC Two, There She Goes for BBC Four, Catastrophe for Channel 4/Amazon, Divorce for HBO, Women on the Verge for UKTV, plus series 3 of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret for Channel 4.

Merman’s first feature film Herself, a co-production with Element Pictures, written by Clare Dunne and Malcolm Campbell and starring Dunne, premiered at 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

Working alongside Sharon Horgan in the London office are Merman’s Managing Director, Rebecca Parkinson; Finance Director Jackie Sidey; and Head of Scripted, Faye Dorn. Merman’s advertising and branded division are also based in London and under the leadership of joint Managing Directors Siobhan Murphy and Spencer Dodd.

In the US, Merman’s offices cover TV and film alongside advertising and branded content. Kira Carstensen is Managing Partner of Merman Los Angeles and Ellen Jacobson-Clarke is Managing Partner of Merman New York.
