MERMAN SHOWS NOMINATED FOR 2 RTS SCOTLAND AWARDS

Merman shows There She Goes and Women on the Verge have both been nominated for 2019 Royal Television Society Scotland Awards.

Lorna Martin, who wrote and created Women on the Verge with Sharon Horgan, has been nominated for Writer at the RTS Scotland Awards 2019. The show is based on Lorna’s critically acclaimed comic memoir Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Lorna was born in Glasgow and is currently based out of Edinburgh.

Women on the Verge is a six-part comedy drama set in Dublin which follows the messy and complicated lives of three flawed women in their late 30s, played by Kerry CondonNina Sosanya and Eileen Walsh, and with Sharon Horgan appearing as a psychotherapist. The show aired on in the UK and RTÉ2 in Ireland from October 2018. It was co-produced by House Productions.

All episodes were directed by Annie Griffin and produced by Gavin O’Grady. Executive producers for the series were Sharon HorganClelia Mountford, Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross, Ailish McElmeel, Justin Healy, Pete Thornton and Joe McVey.

Simon Hynd, who was born and still lives in Edinburgh, directed all episodes of BBC Four‘s There She Goes and has been nominated for Director at the RTS Scotland Awards 2019There She Goes was written by Shaun Pye, all of the stories and characters drawn from his real life experiences with his daughter who was born in 2006 with an extremely rare and, to date, undiagnosed chromosomal disorder. Each episode shines a light on day-to-day life with Rosie – unique experiences from simply trying to take her to the park to trying to explain that everyday isn’t her birthday. A second timeline in 2006 shows the effect having a severely disabled child had on the family unit, how it threatened to disintegrate but ultimately brought them even closer.

There She Goes stars David TennantJessica Hynes (who was recently nominated for a BAFTA for her performance), Miley Locke and Edan HayhurstClelia Mountford produced the show as well as serving as an executive producer alongside Merman co-founder Sharon Horgan and Alex Moody. The show aired on BBC Four from October 2018.

The RTS Scotland Awards will be held on the 12th June  at the Old Fruitmarket Glasgow.
