06 April, 2026

Merman director Declan Lowney is set to helm the opening episode of Ted Lasso Season 4, the long-awaited return of Apple TV+’s beloved football comedy. The fourth season is confirmed for a summer 2026 premiere on Apple TV+, with Hannah Waddingham suggesting an August release at a recent industry event.

Lowney has been a key creative force on Ted Lasso since its earliest days, directing eight episodes across the series’ run including the acclaimed Season 3 finale, for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. He also served as Supervising Producer across all 12 episodes of Season 2. Being entrusted with the Season 4 premiere underscores his central role in shaping the show’s voice.

Season 4 marks a significant evolution for the series, with Ted returning to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team. The returning cast includes Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift, alongside new additions including Tanya Reynolds, Faye Marsay, and Grant Feely as Ted’s son Henry.
