Nicole Ackermann on Women Directors and the Language of Female Storytelling in the LA Times
15 April, 2026
Merman director Nicole Ackermann has written an opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times examining why films told from a distinctly female perspective — like Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! — are so often dismissed, and what that means for the future of women in the industry.

With only 8% of last year’s top-grossing films directed by women, the stakes extend well beyond any single film.
